It seems to be becoming something of a tradition to visit a small South Carolina town on my visits to the lake house. This time around, we stopped somewhere on the way there, rather than making a day trip during the visit. My parents had told me about this "cool little town" they'd discovered driving between Greenville and the lake called Newberry, which, among other things, had an opera house in it. So we had to make a stop.
First we saw Newberry College, a small liberal arts college run by the Lutherans:
They have a music school:
And their mascot is the wolf:
We then headed into the town proper:
We got to the opera house:
and poked our heads in, intending just to scope out the lobby, but we were immediately offered a tour of the place by the woman at the desk, which we accepted:
It's just one of those small town gems.
We ended by finishing our stroll around the main part of town and visiting a coffee shop, before returning to the car and heading off to the lake:
