Winnsboro and Ridgeway, SC: July 4, 2017 - Timekeeper

Phew!  A lot of heavier trips this year so far, but at last, over the July 4th weekend (in fact, right ON the 4th), I took one of my classic day excursions while visiting my family in SC.

We picked out Winnsboro, one of those many historic southern towns with one or two iconic sights to see.  On the way there, we stopped in Ridgeway, which is technically the town that my parents' lakehouse is in, even though the main street (and mailbox) is a good 30 minute drive away.

We went to Ridgeway because they were having a 4th of July barbecue!  Which is something basically always worth an out-of-your-way stopoff.

Got some drinks at a gas station and finished the journey to Winnsboro to find a place to sit and eat.  We picked this place:

Which was some sort of train museum, locally well-known, but also sadly closed for the day.  But it had picnic benches and shade!  Huzzah!

We then went to main street:

To see the clock tower:

Which, and this is actually pretty cool, is the oldest continuously running clock tower in the United States.  Been truckin along since like 1837.

We walked around a bit, seeing a few more sights in the surrounding few blocks, but the mid-July southern sun beat down on us pretty hard, and we soon returned to the car to go back home:
